The article published on the website http://www.guardian.co.uk on May 30, 2013 is headlined "These New Puritans: 'I didn't know how to record a hawk, and now I do'". The article reports at length about These New Puritans (sometimes abbreviated to TNPS) , a British art rock band from the Southend-on-Sea area. The group consists of Jack Barnett (songwriter, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist), his twin brother George Barnett (drums, loops), Thomas Hein (bass guitar, sampler, drums), and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson (keyboards, sampler).

The author of the article, Alexis Petridis, the Guardian's head rock and pop critic, carries a lot of comment on the These New Puritans' second album Hidden was rightly being acclaimed as one of the most remarkable releases of 2013, the band's mastermind Jack Barnett announced that he already had a follow-up planned out. Critics boggled at Hidden's mix of ferocious Japanese taiko drumming, brass and woodwind, electronics inspired by Jamaican dancehall: music that suggested that These New Puritans were a markedly different proposition than they had initially appeared to be.

There is every reason to beleve that the Barnett's voice is very much still in evidence, albeit sharing vocal duties with a Portuguese jazz and fado singer (female), the owner of the lowest bass voice in Britain (male), of whom more later, and a children's choir. "I always say things like that, and I'm always just completely wrong. That's why I'm not going to say what I'm going to do next," he sighs.

The article concludes by saying that as you may have gathered, Field of Reeds is a most unconventional album. If you are looking for comparisons, then maybe the sharp left turns taken by Japan and Talk Talk in their latter years offer a clue. But that's not really helpful. Best just to listen using the player below – and tell us what you make of it.

To sum it up, I can't share the author's view as I have not listened These New Puritans et. Anyway I found this article very useful, and of good value. The message of the author was clear to understand his opinion to thisthis group.
